Founded in 1889 by philanthropist Baron Edmond de Rothschild, Carmel has blossomed into Israel's largest and one of its most important wineries. Today there are two winery locations, one in the Alon Tavor Industrial Park (between Afula and Har Tavor) and the other in Zichron Ya'acov. Three former Israeli Prime Ministers worked at the winery (Ben Gurion, Eshkol and Olmert.) Lior Lacser, Chief Winemaker since 2005, , is a graduate of the CFPPA in Beaune, France, and has major experience working in wineries in France (with Michel Rolland) and in Australia.
We're big fans of this Sauvignon Blanc. It is crisp and delightful, with notes of citrus and a strong backbone of acid. It is more akin to a Loire-style SB rather than a New Zealand Sauv Blanc. Pairs beautifully with light cheeses and white fish, and can stand alone as a wine, too. Kosher, Kosher for Passover and Mevushal.
